Northface University Grand Opening Draws Industry Leaders, Utah Governor and National Education Leaders
Salt Lake City - February 5, 2004 - Northface University, offering bachelor of science in computer science and master of business administration degrees, today announced that executives from technology heavyweights Microsoft and IBM will join with Utah Governor Olene Walker and ACM Education Board Chairman Dr. Peter Denning to celebrate the grand opening of the next-generation university. Classes are in session at the university's Cottonwood Business Park campus in Salt Lake City.
Celebrations begin at 2:00 p.m. MST on February 6, 2004, with a panel discussion led by the renowned software author and visionary, Grady Booch, principal architect of IBM Rational software and IBM Fellow. John Soyring, vice president, IBM Software Group, Services and Support; Janie Schwark, academic marketing manager, Microsoft Corp.; and Denning will host a discussion on hiring trends in information technology. Following the panel discussion, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the celebration will culminate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by Governor Walker.
"Our first bachelor of science in computer science program includes some of the nation's most outstanding technology students, and we're thrilled to be able to commemorate the opening of Northface University with key representatives from both the public and private sectors," said Northface University Chairman Scott McKinley. "Through partnerships with technology leaders, support from our renowned advisory board and our world-class faculty, Northface University's mission is to educate the most sought-after software developers in the world."
"IBM supports Northface University in their mission of delivering accelerated, real-world programs for software developers that ensure students are gaining the skills being sought by the private sector," said Soyring. "There is an overwhelming market demand for entry-level software developers who are certified in today's advanced technologies among IBM and our industry partners."
Among the students entering Northface University this month is Jeff Wilde, formerly a junior in a computer science program at a leading private university. Wilde is one of five outstanding students who were awarded a $10,000 David Pierpont Gardner Scholarship to Northface University. "One of the main reasons I decided to transfer to Northface University was their partnerships with Global 1000 companies like IBM and Microsoft," said Wilde. "Northface University's hands-on learning environment and project-based curriculum will give me the competitive edge I need to succeed in today's job market."
