"Edge Connections Launches High-Speed Dsl Services For New York's Multi-Tenant Office Buildings And Parks"
Atlanta, GA - Edge Connections, Inc., the first full-service broadband communications provider to offer affordable and reliable Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)-based services, today announced the launch of its multi-tiered offerings in the Metropolitan New York City area. The company provides low-cost Internet access, voice, data, video and e-commerce capabilities to small and medium-size businesses in multi-tenant buildings, companies which had been previously underserved as competitors focused on large corporations and conglomerates. Edge Connections broadband services are particularly suitable to the New York market as viable and cost effective solutions for the small to mid-sized business community, a community that, until now, has had little or no choice in selecting a broadband provider. The Edge model delivers broadband solutions to multi-tenant buildings without existing broadband services as well as properties already equipped with proprietary broadband solutions. This rollout is the second in a series of regional deployments planned for major metro areas in the coming months. The first was in Atlanta.
By placing DSL equipment in each multi-tenant office building, Edge Connections transforms that building's existing telephone wiring into a broadband network capable of running at speeds up to 6 MBPS, five times faster than costly T1 lines. The company's small-footprint DSL equipment is about the size of a laptop computer, and creates a broadband superhighway inside the building without expensive and intrusive construction, such as re-wiring the riser with optical fiber or Ethernet cable. By leveraging existing phone wires, Edge Connections' rapid deployment process can make any building in New York City DSL ready in roughly two hours, a significant improvement over the weeks and months businesses typically wait for riser construction, or for local carriers to provision high-speed lines. Unlike DSL provided by large telecommunications companies, Edge Connections DSL technology has no Central Office proximity requirements.
"Our DSL network overcomes the provisioning problems and distance limitations that have plagued other DSL providers," said Edge Connections Senior Vice President Matt Sines. "We hear repeatedly from small and mid-sized tenants in New York's multi-tenant office properties that DSL service has been hyped and promised but rarely delivered. That was true, until now. We have simply moved the intelligence of the network closer to the business customer- in fact right into the building -- which is how Edge Connections can virtually guarantee the consumer the ability to get Edge Connected. We're proud to be the first broadband service provider to deliver high-speed communications services to New York's vastly underserved small- and midsize business community." Edge Connections VP of Marketing Ben Petro commented, "Today, as a next generation DSL provider, we can offer DSL service to a majority of the multi-tenant office buildings in New York, most of which have been inaccessible to other DSL providers. This represents a great opportunity to provide small to medium-size businesses with the best enabling technology in existence, at a small fraction of the price they expected to pay." Petro explained. "There are approximately 488 Class A office buildings representing 275 million square feet of office space in the New York metropolitan area, and about 568 Class B and Class C office buildings representing another 106 million square feet of office space in Metropolitan New York. The majority of businesses in these buildings are locked out of high-speed data services due to the high cost of access or the inability to have DSL provisioned to their location. Our solution is flexible and it deploys rapidly using the building's existing copper phone lines."
