ATLANTA - April 8, 2003 - SmartMail Services® (www.smartmail.com) and Global Logistics (www.shipgl.com) announce SmartMail's acquisition of Global Logistics, a parcel shipping company based in Clearwater, Florida. Acquiring Global Logistics enhances SmartMail's service capabilities and strengthens its foothold as a leading delivery solution for companies shipping high volumes of flat-sized mail and parcel packages.
SmartMail, the market leader of expedited flat-sized mail and lightweight parcels, has extended its service capabilities through this acquisition to include expediting parcel packages from two to 70 pounds. Packages picked up by SmartMail will be processed within 12 - 24 hours and delivered to the destination postal facility ensuring an expedited product. With the addition of Global Logistics' two processing centers, SmartMail's delivery network totals 14 facilities nationwide.
Global Logistics' GLTrack, an advanced delivery performance-monitoring tool, will be added to SmartMail's product line. GLTrack will complement SmartMail's reporting and monitoring services by allowing its users to monitor the performance of all their parcel delivery partners.
"The breadth of products, services and technical strength resulting from this acquisition enhances our value proposition," says Jim Martell, chief executive officer and president of SmartMail. "Our product reach, technological advancements, and ability to be a single-source delivery partner creates many options for customers in the under and over one-pound product arena."
Global Logistics CEO and President Bob Thatcher will join SmartMail's leadership team bringing to the organization over 27 years of executive operations experience. Working closely with the U.S. Postal Service for over 20 years, Thatcher's understanding of the complexities of the parcel marketplace combined with his depth of experience will prove to be invaluable as the organization expands.
"The ability to leverage SmartMail's extensive national sales force affords us an exciting opportunity," says Bob Thatcher, chief executive officer and president of Global Logistics. "The transportation network synergies resulting from this merger will provide tremendous benefits to the parcel community."
Through a unique workshare partnership with the United States Postal Service (USPS), SmartMail collects, processes, sorts, tracks, and expedites the delivery of flat-sized mail and parcel packages. After packages have been received and processed at one of the company's facilities, they are flown overnight to a destination postal facility and injected deep into the postal stream to meet expedited delivery commitments.
