I’m privileged to partner with world-class management teams in pursuit of ambitious strategies that build category-leading businesses.
Q&A
Which attributes do you admire most in an executive?
The best executives I’ve worked with have developed a strong strategic vision that they communicate to others with clarity and confidence. But despite their conviction in that vision, they aren’t rigid or obstinate on how to execute against their strategy. They approach execution with humility, intellectual curiosity, and an open mind, utilizing the strengths of their team and partners. When a management team and its investors are aligned in their strategic vision and willing to work side-by-side as collaborative partners, I’ve found it creates a fruitful environment that is exciting to be a part of.
What is your favorite sports team?
As a Boston-based investor, it may come as no surprise that I’m a diehard New England Patriots fan. By luck or celestial design, I married a woman who worked for the team for over a decade. My wife saw three Super Bowl wins during her tenure – and while I like to think the ring I gave her when I proposed is her favorite, it’s tough to compete with the three Championship rings she received for her contributions to the team. Needless to say, our kids don’t have much competition on “Show & Tell” days at school.
What was your first job?
My first two jobs were polar opposites. In high school I spent summers in the sun as a lifeguard, and then in college I was sweating them out working for a demolition company. Lifeguarding was my first experience with work – but demolition taught me what the word “work” truly means. Their obvious differences notwithstanding, both jobs taught me important communication skills working on teams where one misstep could cause someone serious harm. All those late-night hours staring at spreadsheets as a young financial analyst felt worlds away from the comfort of the lifeguard chair... but they felt easy in comparison to demolition!
